Academic Learning Center - Math Lab

The Hartnell College Math Lab Is Open In Fall 2009!

Several lab courses in varying units are offered to help students improve their math skills.

Note:  Math 201L1, 121L1, 123L1, and 151L1 are not available this semester.
All of the other courses normally offered in the Math Lab are available.

The Math Lab provides an alternative to lecture-based math classes by offering self-paced classes in Math 201 (Pre-algebra), Math 121 (Elementary Algebra), and Math 123 (Intermediate Algebra). In addition, Math 200L (Arithmetic of Whole Numbers) provides a review of basic arithmetic, and Math 151L1 through 151L3 (Technical Math), which are required for a number of certificate programs at Hartnell College, give an overview of math for various trades and professions.

The advantages of taking a self-paced math class are:

  • There is no time limit for tests (within the Math Lab's hours of operation).
  • Students can study at their own pace.
  • Students can earn the same credit as if they were taking the lecture class and also earn a letter grade.
  • Math 205 and Math 206 (Individualized Study I and II) provide support and tutorial services for students already enrolled in a math class. They can also be used by students who wish to review math topics in preparation for enrollment in a class. Math 205 and Math 206 provide tutorial support throughout the course of the semester. Sign up for Math 205 if you are in or planning on taking Math 201, 121, or 123 in a lecture class. Sign up for Math 206 if you are in or planning on taking any other mathematics class at Hartnell College.

All students taking a math class in the Math Lab enjoy the following privileges:
  • Help is available to the student any time the Math Lab is open.
  • Students have access to a broad array of computer software and other resources in the Lab.
  • The Math Lab provides a convenient and pleasant environment to study.
  • Informative tours of the Math Lab, and presentations about the Lab’s curriculum and resources, may be arranged through the Academic Learning Center (755-6866).
