Tech Prep Articulation

What is Tech Prep Articulation?

Tech Prep Articulation offers high school students the opportunity to earn Hartnell community college district academic credit for approved high school educational experiences based upon examinations approved or conducted by Hartnell Community College District faculty. This process is called credit by examination. Earned articulated course credit will be identified as such on a student's academic record.

Why Articulate?

  • Students can earn Hartnell community college district academic credit towards completion of an associate degree or certificate program.

  • High school students begin to envision themselves as college students, therefore easing the transition from high school to college.

  • Academic rigor of articulated courses is increased to match the Hartnell College curriculum course rigor.

  • Students begin to see the connection between their high school experience and post-secondary education and/or career plans.

  • Student motivation is increased.

    What courses are articulated?

    What is the Process?

  • ROP, High School or Hartnell faculty can initiate an articulation agreement. It is required for instructors to agree on the objectives, outcomes, and examination that will be acceptable for students to receive credit. Agreements should be reviewed every 2 years or when instructors or curriculum changes. There will be 2 opportunities for staff to come together each year to discuss and write up their new or updated agreements. One meeting will take place as a breakfast meeting in the Fall and one will take place as a dinner meeting in the spring. Instructors are encouraged to attend one of those meetings to complete the process.

    How do students earn credit?

  • ROP and High school instructors have their articulated class students fill out a Hartnell college application during the beginning of the semester.

  • These applications are mailed to or picked up by the Tech Prep Coordinator to be entered into the Hartnell College Admissions and Records database.

  • At this time students will be "flagged" as 2 + 2 to be located at a later date.

  • At the completion of their coursework, teachers fill out the Certificate of Articulated Course Completion and again turn it into the Tech Prep Coordinator or Admissions and Records to be recorded on the student's transcript.
