ASTRONOMY 1L: Astronomy Laboratory

 in AST 1 required.

 

Laboratory course in astronomy that uses a combination of earth-based experiments and NASA information to teach the basic principals and methods of modern astronomy. Students will make their own measurements as well as use NASA information to calculate such things as the age of the Universe, the age of the moon, the mass of Jupiter, orbital periods of binary stars, the chemical composition of stars, and the probability of extra-terrestrial life. Telescope observations and extensive use of the Planetarium is included.
