Rich Givens
Head Baseball Coach
15 years overall (5yrs/Head Coach & 10 yrs/Asst Coach)

Rich Givens is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Hartnell baseball team and the 15th overall. He has been the pitching coach for 13 of those seasons, the first 10 under former head coach Dan Teresa.

Coach Givens has had 29 All Conference pitchers, with 9 being named to either the All America or All Northern California teams. He has had 1 Northern California Pitcher of the Year, 4 Conference Pitcher of the Year, and 4 Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year.

Coach Givens played at Hartnell College for legendary coach Tony Teresa in 1974-1975 before moving on to play at San Jose State. He played in the Detroit Tigers organization for recently retired major league manager Jim Leyland.

Coach Givens received his Bachelors degree from Chapman University and his Masters degree from San Jose State University. He has also been employed at Hartnell College as the Athletic Counselor for the past six years.

Rich Givens was born and raised in Salinas where he lives today. He has two children Bryan, age 28, and Lauren, age 25.


Michael Poulin
Assistant Coach

Michael Poulin enters his fifth year at Hartnell College as the infield coach. Poulin coached at Hartnell during the 1998 season then at Alisal High for four years as the Head JV coach and roaming instructor before coming back to Hartnell in 2010.

Coach Poulin has worked as an associate scout with the Milwaukee Brewers for the past five years. He was an all conference infielder at Hartnell in 1993 and 1994 playing for long time coach Dan Teresa. Coach Poulin then transferred to Cal State Hayward where he played 3rd base for the Pioneers.

After finishing his playing career, Coach Poulin continued his education at San Jose State University.

Coach Poulin was born and raised in Salinas, where he resides today.  


Coach Eaton
Assistant Coach

Coach Eaton is entering his 4th  season on the Hartnell coaching staff.  Jeff played baseball at Hartnell in 1998-1999 and after graduating moved on to play at Benedictine College 2000-2001. 

After starting his coaching career as a grad assistant at Benedictine, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 2002. Eaton, came back to the Salinas Valley to coach at Everett Alvarez to coach along with former Hartnell assistant Rick Lasoya for two seasons (2003-2004), helping the Eagles make the first and only playoff appearance in program history.

Prior to the 2005 season, Eaton was hired as Head Baseball coach at Alisal High School and remained there for six seasons (2005-2010) until coming to Hartnell in the fall of 2010.

Jeff has taught middle school and high school physical education and received his Master’s Degree from Fresno Pacific University in 2012.   Jeff is currently an instructor in the physical education department at Hartnell College.
