Men's Basketball Coach

Coach Andrew Vasher

This is Coach Vasher's fourth season as Hartnell Men's Basketball Coach. His four season has garnered a 100% transfer rate of all his sophomores to four year schools. This keeps his streak alive of 10 straight years of having 100% transfer rate nine as a JC’s head coach and one as an assistant. After being hired late in the summer of 2005, he was able to lead the Panthers to a record of 13-17 and in state playoff contention. With a year to gather his 2006-2007 team, he was able to assemble a team with a great mix of talent and young men who have high standards for themselves and for their team. In 2006-07 they were Coast South Conference Champions, Regional Runner-ups and were ranked as high as 8th in the state of California. This was the largest turn around in school history.

Coach Vasher has a strong history of rebuilding programs and is looking forward to continue this at Hartnell. In his final three years as the Head Boy's Basketball Coach at a high school in Arizona, he compiled a record of 74-18. At a Junior College in California his record for the final three years was 76-23 with playoff appearances each year, a regional championship and a final eight appearance.

Coach Vasher was also an assistant coach at Northland Pioneer College in northeastern Arizona where these teams competed in the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. Additionally, Coach Vasher has had duties at the NCAA level at division II with Adams State College of Alamosa, Colorado as an assistant coach and NCAA Division 1 Northern Arizona University. Furthermore, Coach Vasher participated in collegiate level basketball at Lewis Clark State College and Eastern Arizona College.

Coach Vasher is also active in fundraising for the men's basketball program and the athletic department. He takes the lead role in conducting youth basketball camps for ages 5 - 18 throughout the year. Participation is high in these camps with many campers returning several times to different sessions. Coach Vasher believes the college experience should be more than books. He encourages his student/athletes to become well rounded individuals as he and his team averages ten hours each week engaged in community service to local youth groups, church groups and community organizations.
