How to Cite Information Found on Web Pages

Here is an illustration of a web page followed by examples of citations:

MLA

You will need to find the following information and include it in the following order:

Author. “Title of web page.” Project site or homepage. Sponsoring institution. Date of posting/revision. Date you accessed web page. <full address of web page>

If you cannot find an author, start with the title of the web page.

“Banned Books Week.” ALA. American Library Association. 27 January 2004. 28 January 2004. http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bannedbooksweek.htm

APA

American Library Association (2004). Banned books week. Retrieved January 28, 2004 from http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bannedbooksweek.htm.

Note the difference in the way the information is presented—differences in the order of the information, the amount of information listed (Month day and year for MLA, year only for APA), and the punctuation (italics for APA, underlining for MLA).
