About Us
The
creation of the Hartnell Center for Sustainable Design &
Construction was made possible in 2007 through a unique collaboration
of the construction industry and the leadership at Hartnell College.
Guided by the
Construction Task Force and over 50 industry partners working on three
Employer Advisory Groups, the Center is focused on developing skilled
and environmentally savvy graduates who will become our Next Generation
of American Builders.
Through promotion
of both sustainable design and construction, graduates of the Hartnell
Construction Management program will be prepared to provide the
leadership needed in our communities to build a new regional green
economy.

Mission
Center
students are trained for entry into Residential, Commercial, Industrial
or Heavy Civil construction, a truly unique offering for any College.
In addition to excellent curriculum which integrates
“green” materials, processes and philosophy, much of the
training is hands on, project based learning.
Hartnell student
construction crews, including the Hartnell Community Response team, can
be found throughout the Salinas Valley region building projects
including low cost green housing units with CHISPA, new buildings for
Rancho Cielo, or repair and reconstruction of burned facilities at the
Boy Scouts Pico Blanco camp.
The Hartnell
faculty are carefully selected from each of their respective
disciplines and are currently or have recently been working with their
particular construction specialty. They bring a wealth of information
and skills as well as industry contacts and mentoring possibilities,
and represent the best that industry has to offer.

Future Plans
The
Center plans to build on our early success by forging stronger
and more creative partnerships with our two key stakeholders: the
industry and the community.
