Jason Hough

Communication Studies Instructor/Director of Forensics

Welcome to Communication Studies at Hartnell College! My goal is to train today's communicators for tomorrow's world. Our Communication Studies courses are designed to challenge and engage students, with every student finishing classes as more effective and more knowledgable communicators. The Hartnell Speech team serves as an additional opportunity for students to learn advanced public speaking skills while representing the college at regional, state and national competitions.

I fell in love with the field of Communicatoin Studies in college. As a former forensics competitor, I lead my college team to the state championships and was co-national champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate in 1998.  I earned a Bachelor's of Social Work and a Bachelor's of Communication Arts from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I also have a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy, a Master's in Community Counseling and a Master's in Communication Studies. I will soon have my EdD in Higher Education, with an emphasis in college teaching. I served as an Assistant Professor and chair of the Performance Studies Department on John Brown University for seven years, developing the speech team to national recognition. I am finishing my fourth year at Hartnell College and am excited about growing the major on campus. I married my wonderful husband in 2014, and have three amazing daughters from a previous marriage: Ella, Mia and Olivia. I also have two furry children, our dogs Amber and Jasper.
