Offensive Line Coach

Bio

Coach Matsuhara enters his 10th season as the offensive line coach.  “Coach Max” has done a terrific job teaching the offensive linemen various technique and schemes.  The Panther “run game” has had some of the top producing seasons in school history and the work that Coach Matsuhara invests into this part of the game has had an immediate impact.  He is highly respected by his current and former students and many of these young men have moved on to universities to continue their careers.  The Panther offense has emerged as one of the best rushing offenses in the conference year in and year out, due in part to the leadership of Coach Matsuhara.  In addition to his service as a football coach at Hartnell, Coach Max was on staff with the track program for 6 years.  Prior to working at Hartnell, he worked at North Salinas H.S. for 32 years as a football coach.  During that time, he coached North Salinas track & field for 15 seasons as well.  Coach Matsuhara earned his Bachelor Degree from California State University - Hayward and he was a student athlete here at Hartnell College.  He participated in football at both schools.

Coach Max prepared Carl Nicks (Super Bowl member of the New Orleans Saints/ Tampa Bay Buccaneer) and he has recently prepared numerous scholarship linemen such as Mike Milovale (U of Hawaii), and Nick Nunes (Middle Tennessee State U.), both players were members of the 2011 Hartnell Panthers Bowl Championship teams.  Coach Matsuhara has proven to be an authority in offensive line play and has started a tradition of producing quality offensive linemen coming out of Hartnell College.  Max has 6 siblings, 1 brother and 5 sisters.   He has been a well known coach in our community for many years and we are fortunate to have him as a member of our staff.
