Campus Safety received a report of a Robbery

These timely warning messages are part of Hartnell Community College Districts commitment to provide campus-area crime information in compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or, Clery Act, as it is commonly known.

October 2, 2018, Between 11:15 A.M and 11:20 A.M.

Northwest corner of parking lot 3 next to E- Building

Suspect Description:

Unknown suspects:

Suspect 1: Hispanic Male 20’s, 5’9”, 150 pounds, Black hair, Dark skin, wearing a red hoodie sweatshirt and faded blue jeans.

Suspect 2: Hispanic Male, 20’s, 5’9”, 160 pounds, Black hair, dark skin, wearing a black bandanna on his head, a dark colored vest and faded saggy true religion jeans.

Incident Information:

On October 2, 2018 between 11:15 and 11:20 A.M. a student was approached in the Northwest corner of parking lot 3 by Building E by the two suspects.  The suspects threatened the student with a simulated firearm and demanded her purse, wallet and a ring on her finger.   It was reported by students that they had seen the suspects in various locations around the campus throughout the morning.  The Salinas Police Department is investigating the Robbery.  Any information about this occurrence should be immediately reported to Salinas Police (831)758-7090 or Hartnell Campus Safety (831) 755-6888

Prevention Information:

It is a priority for the Hartnell Community College District that, faculty, staff, students, and guests are safe.  If ever you feel unsafe report your concern to any Campus Safety Officer or any employee. Consider utilizing an escort.  Be mindful of the location of the blue light emergency phones and utilize them in the event you feel threatened or there is an emergency. Be alert and aware. Pay full attention to who is around you when you are in public. If you are the victim of a robbery remain calm and do not resist. Assure the robber you will cooperate and take no action that may jeopardize your safety. Do not make any quick or unexpected movements. Follow the robber’s direction, Don’t argue with the robber. After the robbery, go immediately to a safe location and report the crime.

Incident Information

The Salinas Police Department notified, Hartnell College Campus Safety that a Sexual Assault by Force occurred in Building E between two current students, sometime in July of 2017.  The report was made known to Salinas Police Department on February 17, 2018.  They brought the entirety of the incident it to the attention of Hartnell College on March 23, 2018.  An arrest was made March 23, 2018.

It is a priority for the Hartnell Community College District that, faculty, staff, students, and guests are safe.  If ever you feel unsafe report your concern to any Campus Safety Officer or any employee. If you feel uneasy about a situation trust your instincts and attempt to interrupt the chain of events.  Consider utilizing an escort.  Be mindful of the location of the blue light emergency phones and utilize them in the event you feel threatened or there is an emergency.  Use the buddy system and watch out for each other.  Understand consent; people who are incapacitated, forced or impaired by alcohol or drugs cannot give consent.
