Final Project – Styles for Learning

Cheryl O’Donnell

As instructors it is important for us to understand that students have preferred styles of learning. How we present our materials to our students can make a difference in the learning process.  What works well for one student may not work as well for another. The VARK inventory is an assessment, which is used to determine which preferred learning style an individual has. The acronym VARK stands for (V)isual, (A)udal, (R)ead/Write, and (K)inesthetic. These four categories represent the sensory modal preference that a person may prefer to use for learning.

The following links will take you to pages which describe websites, and their URL's, that provide good examples of how we can use different techniques to address different modalities for learning.

 (V)Visual examples

(A) Aural examples

(R) Read/Write examples

(K) Kinesthetic examples

Numerous articles abound on the Internet which address learning styles and preferences.  Check out the two articles which I read and decide for yourself if they are useful!
