INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that to write well requires: a well-developed vocabulary, strong reading skills, methodical and logical organization of ideas, and creative (original) expression of ideas.
To develop these abilities, students must: manage their time well, practice collaboration and discussion of ideas, annotate and analyze what they read, reflect on their own experiences and those they read about, examine and criticize their own writing as well as the writing of others, write often and in a detailed and organized manner, and attribute and identify the sources they use to support their ideas and arguments.
English courses are designed to develop these reasoning, communicative, and creative abilities in students through logical, well-written argumentation so that they can exercise these skills in solving the problems of life in a modern society, to maintain and improve society, and to realize their individual goals and dreams. Fulfilling these purposes requires frequent written reflection and discussion of assigned readings in preparation for writing.
