This class will introduce students to:
- Various Internet resources including email, the World Wide Web, search engines, Usenet Newsgroups, mailing lists, Telnet, FTP.
- Hands-on experience planning and conducting searches to solve information needs, evaluating search results.
- Downloading files from the Internet, how to cite Internet resources.
- Ethical issues arising from Internet connectivity, such as censorship, pornography, creation of information haves and have-nots.
- Basic html coding, how to create and publish web pages containing hypertext links, images, and tables.
- Using Multimedia on the Internet.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon the conclusion of this course, students will have achieved the following outcomes. Each student will possess the skills to:
- Understand and explain the Internet's evolution, composition, potential and structure.
- The student will master related terminology and concepts, as well as understanding network structures and protocols, TCP/IP, Gateways, IP addresses.
- Be able to establish connection to the Internet via a modem.
- Understand the variety of connection possibilities: direct-Ethernet, SLIP, PPP, ARA, etc. as well as the hardware and software required.
- Demonstrate the ability to navigate the Internet in order to gather information and communicate with the world using the following tools:
- WWW browsers
- Email
- Listserv
- Usenet Newsgroups
- FTP
- Telnet
- Gopher
- Chat
- Understand major issues involving media transmittal including copyright, moral and ethical issues, Netiquette, critical evaluation of web-based information resources to determine currency, authenticity, and accuracy.
- Design, create, and publish web pages containing images, tables and hypertext links using HTML coding.
- Develop effective search strategies, perform research, collect and evaluate information using the Internet.
- Establish bibliographically correct citations of material found on the Internet.
