General Biology (Bio 10)
Biology 10 is a general introduction the biological sciences. In this course we will focus on the diversity of life on this planet with respect to morphology, ecology, heredity, and evolution. We will explore cell structures, chemistry and functions in order to understand the fundamental similarities and differences between living organisms. We will also discuss the impact biology has on the physical environment (and vise-versa) in order to think critically about topical issues such as global warming, rising fuel costs and alternative energy sources, habitat conservation efforts, and fisheries management policies among others. My goal is for the student to develop an interest and/or lose their fear of the natural sciences and go on to study in detail fields of personal interest.

Please note: The practice tests, chapter outlines, and extra powerpoint presentations all accompanied the Instructor's version of the book. I did not write any of these documents. As such, they do not necessarily reflect the material that I choose to cover in lecture. They will invariably cover more information than my lectures will as there is simply not enough time in the semester to cover every bit of material in the text. They are a terrific source of information and I will select some questions directly from the practice tests for use on the quizzes, midterms, and finals.
