Student Knowledge
Welcome to the business world
Business is part of your everyday life. The products and services that are part of your everyday life and the place where you work or plan to work are businesses. You may not want to major in business, you may hate to work with numbers, but you do need to understand the business world.

In this class, you will be learning the accounting cycle that accounting clerks must perform in a normal business environment. The student will use a corporate approach to this preparation of business facts and figures. Once we have established the basics of accounting communication through knowledge of the accounting cycle, the student will begin analyzing and evaluating the preparation of this information. This basic knowledge will help the student in other business classes, possibly help you become your own financial advisor, as well as prepare you to be a knowledgeable supervisor who will be able to interact with top level management or possibly even to reach that top level of management.

What the student needs to know
This is not a difficult class. You will work hard in this class, but any student who is willing to put in the time and effort to make this class successful can complete this class.

The one aspect of this class that is difficult is the time requirements. A student can expect to work a minimum of two hours for each hour of class they attend. More realistically the student can expect to work an average of three hours for each hour of class they attend. This class meets five hours per week. The student should expect to spend between ten and fifteen hours of outside work each week in this class.

It is important that the student realize that your instructor would like you to leave this class understanding the basic accounting concepts. The student will learn to create, then learn apply or use these concepts to analyze and then communicate this information.
