| About Instructor | |||
Hi! Welcome to our class! I'm really happy you are here, and am very honored to be your teacher. Although my syllabus explains all of the "rules" to follow and understand, I found that it didn't reflect a big part of who I am, and why I am here. I am hoping this letter will help convey some of that part. Many people believe it's the instructor that makes or breaks the class, but I believe it's a shared responsibility (between you and I). I am very organized, clear in my expectations, and will give my 100% effort. I try and make every class interesting, fun, and informative. I want you to know, your presence and participation makes our class unique and special. I am better at teaching when the class has more of an interactive, discussion-type environment, rather than a lecture format. I can do both, but prefer the former. I hope you will come prepared [in other words, have read the material before class, hint hint =) ], participate actively, and make this class the best we can! For those of you who have never spoken in class, may see yourself as shy, and/or are a reflective learner, here is a chance for you to practice learning a new skill. My goal or mission is not to convert you all to be psychology majors (although deep-down I think that would be really cool), but to help you gain an excitement and love for learning. I feel I have the best job in the world because I love both teaching and psychology, and here I get to combine my passions! One of the reasons why I enjoy teaching at Hartnell so much is because of people just like you. I find most of the students are very motivated, treat education as a privilege and not a right, and ask some excellent questions. Although my formal office hours are MWF 10:00-11:00 AM, and TTh 10:45-11:45 AM , please know I am here a lot, and if my door (C-316) is open, I am available. You can also call me at (831) 755-6781, write me a note, or email me at: yarao@hartnell.edu Thank you for choosing to take our class! Sincerely, Yoshiko Matsushita-Arao |
