of Financial Aid

College can be an expensive investment but there are ways to assist students with the costs of attending a college. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step in determining and establishing a student's eligibility. This application is required to be considered for the Federal PELL, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study (FWS) , Federal Stafford Loan (FFEL), Cal Grant programs and other state programs and scholarships.

Another method of assisting students with enrollment fees is the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver (BOGFW). The criteria is based on three different methods. The first method of eligibility Method A - is based on current TANF/Calwork's recipient status, receiving SSI/SSP as the sole source of income, or is a qualified Dependent of a Veteran through the Dept of Veteran's Affair, you are required to show current proof of documentation for eligibilty. Method B - is based on income criteria. The third method, Method C - is based on need and the results are gathered from the FAFSA application process. The major component of the BOGW form is that Admissions and Records has qualified the student as a resident of California . This Waiver is unique to California Community Colleges.

The last thing I would like to mention is that ALL students should apply for financial aid. Income should not be a barrier in applying. Most of the students qualify by completing one of these two applications. The comment that "my parents make too much money" is not necessarily accurate. Students are encouraged to apply and find that they may be eligible to receive some sort of Federal or State funding.

NEED computer access to complete your FAFSA on line? Financial Aid staff is available in the Financial Aid computer room on Mondays-Fridays from 9-4. Please arrive no later than 3:30 to allot for time to complete the online application.

All applications for financial assistance programs  i.e., student loans, workers’ Compensation, grants, scholarships, special funds, subsidies, prizes, etc., will be considered by the Hartnell College District / Local School District without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, marital status or disability.  Harassment of any employee/student with regard to race, color, national origin, gender, marital status or disability is strictly prohibited.

de Ayuda Financiera

Asistir al colegio puede ser una inversión cara. Por eso hay diferentes formas de ayuda financiera disponible para ayudar a los estudiantes con el costo de asistir al colegio. La Aplicación de Ayuda Financiera, Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), es el primer paso en el proceso de aplicar y determinar la necesidad financiera y el criterio de elegibilidad de cada estudiante. Esta aplicación es necesaria para determinar elegibilidad y recibir beneficios de las subvenciones (becas) Federal PELL, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study (FWS) , Federal Stafford Loan (FFEL), los programas Cal Grant y otros programas y becas proporcionados por el estado.

Otro método de ayuda disponible para los estudiantes es el programa Board of Governor ’s Fee Waiver (BOGW), el cual se basa en tres diferentes métodos para determinar elegibilidad. El primer método está basado en la posición de un estudiante como recibidor actual de TANF, recibidor de beneficios del Seguro Social como única fuente de ingreso, o es un dependiente calificado de un Veterano y satisfactoriamente reconocido por el Departamento de Asuntos del Veterano. Los resultados del los tres métodos y el resultado de la aplicación FAFSA son reunidos y un resultado es obtenido. El mayor componente del formulario BOGW es que la oficina de Archivos y Admisiones (Admissions and Records) haya calificado al estudiante como residente del estado de California, puesto que, este programa es único en los colegios comunitarios de California.

La última cosa que me gustaría mencionar es que TODOS los estudiantes deberían aplicar para recibir Ayuda Financiera. El ingreso familiar no debería ser un obstáculo en el proceso de aplicación. Al completar una de las dos aplicaciones antedichas, la mayor parte de los estudiantes califican para algún tipo de ayuda. El comentario “es que mis padres ganan mucho dinero” no es necesariamente preciso. A todos los estudiantes se les anima para que apliquen y se den cuenta que pueden ser elegibles para recibir algún tipo de ayuda financiera, ya sea Federal o estatal.
