Financial Aid Step 2 English

Federal regulations require verification as part of the Federal Student Aid
programs. The U.S. Department of Education requires 30% of the FAFSA
(Free Application for Federal Student Aid) filers at each post-secondary institution be verified, as selected by the Central
Processing System (CPS).However, the institution has the authority and may be required to verify additional students. Applications are selected for verification either by the CPS or by the school.


Required Verification
Items

  • Household size
  • Number in college
  • Adjusted gross income (AGI)
  • U.S. Taxes paid
  • Certain types of untaxed income
    & Benefits:
  • Social Security benefits
  • Child support
  • IRA/Keogh deductions
  • Foreign income exclusion
  • Earned income credit
  • Interest on tax-free bonds
  • etc… each institution may vary
    in required proof.

Student Responsibilities

  • Student must correct conflicting or errors on the FAFSA
  • Comply with all deadlines
    and adhere to consequences of missing deadlines
  • Report any other forms of monies not report on their award letter
  • Return any unearned grants or over-awards
  • Dependent and Independent Verification forms.
