Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Every financial aid applicant's academic history is reviewed once their financial aid application has been processed into the college Datatel Financial aid system. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is determined to ensure students meet the financial aid standards of satisfactory progress.
- A student must meet quantitative and qualitative standards. The student must complete 67% of their term units attempted as well as 67% of their overall attempted units. A student must maintain a C average for all terms as well as overall.
- All applicants and continuing recipients must meet the minimum standards each semester or they will be placed on financial aid probation. Students on financial aid probation continue to be eligible for aid during the probationary semester. A student is placed on disqualification if she/he fails to meet the Financial Aid SAP standards at the end of the probationary semester.
- Once placed on disqualification, students may appeal the decision. In order to appeal a disqualification, students must attend a mandatory SAP workshop where at the conclusion of the workshop an appeals form will be handed out. Students must make a written appeal outlining the issues and the resolutions. The appeals must be submitted during the semester of disqualification. There are no exceptions.
- Additionally, the maximum number of attempted units may not exceed the limits established by the educational goal (AA/AS degree, Transfer, Vocational Certificate). Students who are applying for aid to complete their educational goal beyond the maximum number of units are also considered disqualified for not having met their educational objective in the maximum time frame 1.
- Financial Aid students who withdraw from Hartnell College prior to 60% of the term may be required to return some or their entire financial aid award. Please refer to R2T4 form under verification section step 2.
1Maximum Time Frame: A student pursuing an AA/AS degree must complete 60 semester units. The federal maximum time frame would be 90.0 units (150% x 60.0). A student pursuing a certificate must also complete his/her program within the federal maximum time frame of 150% of the actual normal program length. Normal program lengths are published in the current catalog. |
