Hartnell College is undertaking one of the most fundamental, exciting transformations in its history! In the fall of 2007, we embarked on a study of our entire area, knocking on doors of homes and businesses to find out what our communities want and need, and how Hartnell can fit into that picture. The resulting study, the Salinas Valley Vision 2020 Project, provides a blueprint for the college and also for the entire Salinas Valley.
As these data were becoming available, a Reorganization Committee was convened that included people from all facets of the college to imagine the future of Hartnell, a future that would truly serve the needs of our community with an organizational structure that reflected the essential business of the college: Teaching and Learning. The committee’s work started with a vision and continued with a multi-phase plan to achieve that vision. Click here to view the Transformation Documents, including a reorganization chart.
Concurrent with all of this work were two other significant efforts: One, our faculty were hard at work developing tools for program assessment, curriculum review, and student learning outcomes. Their work is summarized in progress reports submitted to the Accreditation Commission, which can be found on our accreditation website, and two, after considering this mountain of work and its implications for Hartnell’s future, every department, every division, every office, and every person at Hartnell developed plans for their areas of influence. The resulting 2008 Educational and Facilities Master Plan, and King City Educational and Facilities Master Plan, 2008-2011 represent an impressive collective effort and vision for the future of Hartnell as a responsive innovator in meeting the varied educational and workforce needs of the people of the Salinas Valley.
Finally, the college has renewed its commitment to a revitalized shared governance process
