High School Equivalency Program (HEP)
Welcome to the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) website!!
HEP is funded by the US Department of Education Office of Migrant Education. HEP is a migrant education program designed to assist migrant and seasonal field workers obtain their GED and either employment, military service, apprenticeship, Certificate of Skills Acquisition, Certificate of Achievement, or Associates Degree.
The services provided by Hartnell College HEP are:
Diagnostic and placement assessment (TABE/CASAS)
Module delivered GED curriculum taught by Salinas Adult School
- Off-Campus GED class options
Supplemental academic support provided by Hartnell Academic Learning Labs and Supplemental Instruction Leaders
Detailed course of action for students who do not pass a given section of the test by HEP Counselors
Provide curriculum delivery that is regularly reviewed and adjusted by HEP Advisory Committee to identify potential needs of local migrant not being optimally addressed by the program or scope of the grant.
Academic planning and enrollment assistance for Mini-Certificate, Certificate of Achievement, or Associates Degree
Provide information about and in-class access to on and off-campus resources (EOPS/CARE, DSP&S, Financial Aid, WIC, WIA, Cash Aid, transportation assistance, health education and service, job placement assistance, etc)
The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is designed to assist people who are eligible to participate based on the following:
A person, or his or her parent, must have spent a minimum of 75 days during the past 24 months as a migrant or seasons field worker;
Not have earned a secondary school diploma or its equivalent;
Not currently enrolled in an elementary or secondary school;
Be 18 years of age or over, or beyond the age of compulsory school attendance in the State in which he or she resides;
Be determined by HEP to need the academic and supporting services and financial assistance provided by the project in order to attain the equivalent of a secondary school diploma and to gain employment or be placed in an IHE or other postsecondary education or training.
