CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

The instructor will teach in a diversified construction technology program. Our existing program is in residential construction with courses in residential construction, both rough frame and finishing work, scheduling, estimating, law and contracts, construction management, codes and a variety of courses in the trades. The instructor will play a key role in the design, development and implementation of a Commercial and Engineering Construction Management program to include areas in steel, timber, concrete, and mansonry design, codes, project management and business related courses. The faculty will oversee budgets, schedule and coordinate the construction of a wooden frame house and other commercial construction instructional projects with industry partners, local building officials, other classes and instructors and will purchase materials for projects and maintain inventories and control of supplies, materials and equipment. Furthermore, the instructor will order textbooks and assist the Dean with scheduling and will also fulfill the professional responsbilities of a full-time faculty member, including, but not limited to: teaching most scheduled classes; adhering to the course outline, keeping accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; posting and maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and updating curriculum; participating in departmental meetings and college-wide activities and committees; and maintaining relationships with feeder schools, transfer institutions, and the business/industry community. Assignment may include day, evening, and weekend hours and classes off the main campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
  • Any bachelor’s degree AND two years of related experience OR
  • Any associate degree AND six years related experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Four years of project management experience and a Contractors License.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Construction/Engineering Management or related degree.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Regular, full-time, academic, tenure-track position to begin January 21, 2008. Salary range: $38,998 to $67,085 per academic year based on 176 days (placement dependent upon educational background and appropriate full-time teaching and industry experience). District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are available for the employee only. State Teacher’s Retirement System (STRS) membership is required. District participates in contributions to STRS.

All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected must be fingerprinted and submit to a tuberculosis examination.
