DIRECTOR, EXTENDED OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS & SERVICES

DEFINITION

Under the general supervision of the Vice President for Student Services, the Director of Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) is the manager responsible for the leadership, administration and supervision associated with the District's Extended Opportunity Programs and Services and CARE prgogram. The Director is responsible for providing and administering a diversity of EOPS services including, but not limited to outreach, recruitment, retention and transfer services for economically disadvantaged, curlturally diverse, nontraditional, and/or educationally disadvantaged students.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, develop and implement departmental goals and services in accordance with institutional and Student Services goals; evaluate existing services and student needs by attending campus meetings, local and statewide workshops and conferences.

  • Train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions.

  • Plan, manage, and evalute the program areas by developing policies and procedures in accordance with applicable regulations.

  • Coordinate with appropriate units within the college in the development of remedial, tutorial, and motivational programs designed to promote success for EOPS eligible students at the College.

  • Prepare annual budgets for this area and administer and authorize all expenditures.

  • Plan and coordinate staff in-service activities for professional and personal growth.
  • Prepare state final reports for EOPS.
  • Prepare reports required by state agencies.
  • Develop and maintain liaison and communications with College departments, community groups, and state agencies.
  • Responsible for the marketing and outreach efforts of the program areas to include; television, radio, the internet, newsletters, bulletins, flyers, and brochures.
  • Prepare applications for state grants.
  • Operate a computer, assigned software and other office equipment.
  • Participate in various District and community advisory committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*

  • A Master's degree.

  • One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience related to student services.

  • Two year's managerial or administrative experience or the equivalent in educational programs, or private industry predominantly dealing with ethnic minorities or person's handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages OR two year's experience as a community college EOPS counselor or EOPS instructor, or have comparable experience in working with disadvantaged clientele.

  • Six units of college-level course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by educational, language or social disadvantages.

  • The equivalent. (Requires completion of Equivalency Determination Form).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Regular, Full-time, academic management, 224 days per year position. Annual salary range: $65,626 to $78,477. Annual Doctoral stipend: $1,500. District-assisted health and welfare coverage for the employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are provided for the employee only. The District participates in contributions to the appropriate retirement system, which is a required membership for the position.


All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected is required to be fingerprinted and must submit to a tuberculosis examination.
