THE COLLEGE
Hartnell College is one of the oldest educational institutions in California. It was originally established in 1920 as Salinas Junior College and was renamed in 1948 after William Edward Petty Hartnell, who founded the first school in this region in 1834. The main campus, located in Salinas, was developed in 1936 and remains as the valued cultural and educational center of the Salinas Valley.
Hartnell offers the first and second year of a baccalaureate program, and awards the associate of arts/sciences degrees and certificates of proficiency. The College has transfer agreements with many California State University and University of California Campuses that guarantee admission for Hartnell Students who have completed the two-year requirements.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- Direct and supervise personnel within the business/finance operations of the District. Including, drafting procedures, providing training, and giving technical direction and guidance to maintain account detail.
- Evaluate the performance of classified personnel assigned to the business/finance office.
- Direct and supervise the preparation of all financial reports and records. Coordinate monthly and fiscal year-end schedules/deadlines for accounting activity, audits and reporting.
- Perform account analyses; prepare journal entries to record or correct transactions.
- Monitor the appropriate use of account numbers; assure the appropriate classification and recording of financial transactions and recommend changes in procedures when appropriate.
- Gather, review and analyze data to troubleshoot problem areas such as compliance of fiscal procedures with applicable statutes and regulations or internal control standards.
- Assure general ledger and annual reports accurately reflect the District's financial position monthly and at fiscal year-end.
- Assure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP and GASB; recommend changes in procedures when appropriate.
- Perform operational or financial audits as required to analyze financial activity.
- Assist in the determination of specifications and implementation of financial systems.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS*
- Sensitive to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and disability backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or a related field and three years professional experience in accounting, financial analyses or auditing with significant responsibility with general ledger analyses and financial statement preparation.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full time, non-exempt, classified supervisory position. Annual salary range: $57,090 to $69,448. District-assisted health and welfare coverage for the employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are provided for the employee only. The District participates in contributions to the appropriate retirement system, which is a required membership for the position.
All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.
Individual selected is required to be fingerprinted and must submit to a tuberculosis examination.
