CalWORKs Counselor
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Responsible for full-time assignment in counseling to serve students in accordance with Department of Social Services CalWORKs educational training guidelines and a variety of duties including, but not limited to, academic advising for career preparation, educational planning, personal and crisis counseling, career counseling, job readiness preparation, community resources/network development.
The counselor will
develop CalWORKs and Career workshops; conduct individual and/or group counseling
sessions; complete informational reports as required; attend and participate
in scheduled staff meetings; maintain established office hours; assist with
student orientation, recruitment and registration; serve as a liaison with assigned
academic divisions, departments or special areas; administer and interpret appropriate
standardized tests; teach career guidance courses, assist students with resumes
and/or personal statements; prepare for job interviews; assist with job, volunteer,
work study, and/or on-the-job training placements and perform other duties as
assigned. The position may include a combination of irregular hours and/or some
evenings/weekends at peak periods such as orientation, registration, summer
session, and per special requests from departments or partnering agencies. The
Counselor will also be expected to assume the usual non-teaching/counseling
duties such as serving on college committees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *
- Must be sensitive to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
- A Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development OR the equivalent. (Applicants applying for equivalency consideration must submit a District form for Equivalency Committee review.)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full-time, academic position. Starting salary range: $42,395 to $60,223 per academic year based on 177 days (placement dependent upon educational background and appropriate full-time counseling and/or teaching experience). District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are available for the employee only. State Teacher's Retirement System (STRS) membership is required. District participates in contributions to STRS. Position is contingent on renewal of annual funding.
Individual selected must be fingerprinted and submit to a tuberculosis examination.
