FINANCIAL AID TECHNICIAN (four vacancies)

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Assist students in applying for various types of Federal, State and other financial aid programs and resources; interview students and assist in completing student aid applications on paper and on the Internet.
  • Verify application information and supporting documentation; recalculate financial need as required; evaluate special circumstances influencing need analysis results and recommend appropriate changes in awards.
  • Interview students and parents concerning programs, applications and eligibility; interpret and explain Federal, State and District regulations, requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Enter and revise data in the computer; establish files for students; maintain current automated files of financial aid recipients.
  • Coordinate communication and activities with various District departments and personnel, governmental and private agencies, other colleges, financial institutions and the public.
  • Type, prepare and maintain a variety of records, files, and reports related to financial aid activities; compile and maintain statistical data for inclusion in State and federal reports.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment and machines including computers, peripheral equipment, calculators and copiers.
  • Train and provide work direction to student assistants as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *
  • Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community-at-large.
  • Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in business, accounting, social sciences or related field and three years of increasingly responsible clerical experience involving student services or a related function.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Tagalog) desired.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Part-time, 12 months per year positions. Hourly wage: $13.50 per hour. Vacation and sick leave are accrued on a pro-rated basis. District-assisted life, accident and income protection insurance is provided for the employee only. Must become a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA). The District pays the classified employee's contribution to PERS. Positions are contingent on renewal of annual funding.

Main campus outreach, 20 hours per week: M-T 1p-5p, W-TH 5p-9p, Sa 1p-5p
Main campus liaison, 20 hours per week: T-TH 10a-2p, F 8a-5p
Alisal Campus representative, 20 hours per week: M-TH 1p-5p, Sa 1p-5p
South County representative, 30 hours per week: M 9a-6p, W 12p


All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected is required to be fingerprinted and must submit to a tuberculosis examination.
