GROUNDS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize and irrigate flowers, trees, grass and shrubs; hoe weeds, rake leaves, sweep walks, pick up debris and other related duties as needed.
  • Mow, edge, trim, fertilize and rake lawns; irrigate and water various grounds areas by hand or by operating a sprinkler system.
  • Maintain and repair of irrigation systems; install, repair and reline pipe and electric clock systems as required.
  • Operate a variety of power-driven equipment such as tractors, trucks, weed whips, mowers, fork lifts, sweepers, power pressure sprayers, chain saws and other equipment used in grounds maintenance work; utilize standard gardening hand tools; assure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Operate a boom truck to trim and remove trees as assigned; raise, top and remove dead or dangerous limbs or other materials.
  • Install or sod new lawns; sweep lawns, sidewalks, blacktop and other athletic facility areas; clean and wash down football stadium; aerate and fertilize turf areas using special equipment.
  • Assist with and perform general grounds maintenance duties involved in repairing fences; haul sand and dirt; operate power spray rigs and spray for pests and weeds.
  • Assist in the selection of flowers, trees, shrubs, ground cover and other materials.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school and two years grounds maintenance experience including operation of grounds maintenance equipment and chemical applications.
  • A valid California driver license.
  • Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community-at-large.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Regular, full-time, 12 months per year position. Starting monthly salary: $2,346; Range: $2,346 to $2,853 (5 steps). District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. District-assisted life, accident and income protection insurance is provided for the employee only. Must become a member of the Union of Operating Engineers Stationary Local NO. 39 (L39) and the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). The District pays the classified employee’s contribution to PERS. Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Schedule subject to change.



All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected is required to be fingerprinted and must submit to a tuberculosis examination.
