DIRECTOR OF NURSING AND HEALTH SERVICES EDUCATION

DEFINITION

The Director of Nursing and Health Services Education programs is the manager of all functions associated with instruction in:
  • Health Services

  • Emergency Medical Technician

  • Nursing-Associate degree program

  • Nursing-Vocational

  • Physician's Assistant Program
Responsibility includes formulation and administration of District policy concerning the instructional programs. Activities include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling budget, curriculum, staff evaluation, and scheduling of instructional programs.

To perform effectively these functions, the Director of Nursing and Health Services Education will exercise independent discretion and judgment, which are subject to periodic review and evaluation by the Dean of Math/Science/Nursing/Animal Health Tech-nology.



SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulate and administer policies and procedures in relation to respective disciplines.

  • Participate on District-wide policy formulating committees.

  • Interpret and administer College policy with respect to class size and course offerings, including faculty loads, teaching schedules, office hours, and room assignments.

  • Participate in the formulation of collective bargaining proposals and when assigned, may participate in negotiations as the Board of Trustees' representative.

  • Interpret and enforce collective bargaining agreements.

  • Evaluate and approve/disapprove requisitions for all supplies, replacements, field trips, memberships, printing and duplicating, repairs, special contracts, consultants, capital outlay, requests for conference attendance, motor trips, vehicles, leaves of absence, textbook orders, printing orders for in-house printing and duplication, work orders for maintenance department construction, painting, repair, telephone installation, and moving of furniture and equipment, and all other requests from faculty and staff.

  • Determine the direction for the unit; interpret, revise, and develop curriculum for courses and programs; and develop catalog and class schedule information in assigned disciplines.

  • Assure that instructional program articulation is current with high schools, colleges, and universities.

  • Evaluate performance of faculty, classified personnel, and student assistants.

  • Develop and direct a program of orientation and in-service education for members of the faculty and classified staff.

  • Participate in the formulation and evaluation of off-campus advisory committees.

  • Assume additional managerial responsibilities as assigned, appropriate to the position in order to assure the attainment of District goals.



  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Sensitive to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and disability backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.

  • A Master's that includes course work in nursing, education or administration.

  • One year of experience in an administrative position.

  • Two years of experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs.

  • One year of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.



  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Administration experience at the community college level.

  • Experience in curriculum development utilizing technology.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Full-time, academic management, 224 days per year position. Annual salary range: $83,405 to $94,744. Annual Doctoral stipend: $1,500. District-assisted health and welfare coverage for the employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are provided for the employee only. The District participates in contributions to the appropriate retirement system, which is a required membership for the position.



    All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

    Individual selected is required to be fingerprinted and must submit to a tuberculosis examination.
