NURSING SKILLS LAB INSTRUCTOR

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Plan lab set-ups for nursing classes according to established guidelines.
  • Oversee the removal of lab set?ups; assure proper disposal and sterilization of equipment and tools.
  • Assist instructor in preparation of materials and demonstrations; provide work direction and guidance to students.
  • Purchase local supplies for labs and maintain instruments as necessary.
  • Assist teachers and students in the use of a variety of equipment, computers, materials and supplies in the instructional setting; provide assistance to students according to instructions by teachers.
  • Maintain records of materials and equipment used by students.
  • Maintain current inventory of equipment, materials, specimens, supplies; oversee and assure security of laboratory equipment; monitor budgets; communicate with vendors; research and purchase equipment and supplies as assigned.
  • Perform instructional duties; develop audio-visual materials and models for classroom use; test new software applications for classroom or instructor use.
  • Operate and assist students in the use of computer software; demonstrate computer and software procedures to students and faculty.
  • Tutor, drill, reinforce and assist individuals and groups of students in reading, language, writing, mathematics, nursing skills, and other subjects according to instructions and guidance from teachers.
  • Assist students in selected subjects for remedial, supplemental or enrichment purposes; observe progress of students and share observations with instructor.
  • Innovate and utilize approved instructional techniques to encourage selected behaviors.
  • Monitor student records and monitor student progress reports.
  • Develop and maintain an electronic record keeping system to support coordination with clinical facilities.
  • Arrange clinical placements according to direction from individual faculty members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
  • A Bachelor's in Nursing or a related field.
  • A current California Board of Registered Nursing License.
  • One year of experience, within the previous five years, as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Tagalog)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Regular, full-time, academic, tenure-track position beginning August 2003. This is a 35-hour per week assignment. Starting salary commensurate with education and experience. Contract length is 177 days per academic year. District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are available for employee. State Teacher's Retirement System (STRS) membership is required. The District participates in contributions to STRS.

All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected must be fingerprinted and submit to a tuberculosis examination.
