PROJECT DIRECTOR - TEACHER READING AND DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP AND FUTURE TEACHER TRANSFER PROGRAM

DEFINITION:

Under direction of the Fine Arts, Language Arts, and Social Science department, responsible for the development, leadership, administration, and all functions associated with District's Teacher Reading and Development Partnership (TRDP) program, and Future Teacher Transfer Program (FTTP).

The program will create a teacher preparation program in partnership with San Jose State and California State University Monterey Bay, and Partner with local elementary school districts to improve student reading.

The TRDP grant seeks to develop a pool of prospective teachers committed to serving in a rural area and improve reading abilities for elementary school children. The FTTP grant seeks to identify, recruit, and support individuals wishing to teach English Learner (EL) students.



REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Build on established partnerships with San Jose State and CSUMB and ten regional community colleges.
  • Establish partnerships with local elementary school districts.
  • Establish effective and positive relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Collaboratively work with Hartnell College departments.
  • Develop curriculum for teacher preparation.
  • Coordinate outreach and recruiting activities to develop a pool of students in the programs.
  • Create marketing materials to promote services provided by the programs.
  • Maintain participant data and statistics.
  • Liaison with local elementary schools to place tutors in classrooms.
  • Assist students in program enrollment.
  • Plan, negotiate, coordinate and supervise the functions of the grants and submit reports as requested by funding agencies.
  • Develop and implement procedures related to the administration of the grants.
  • Plan and coordinate research necessary to measure program effectiveness and submit annual, year-end reports.
  • Prepare and manage the budgets of the programs.
  • Assist in staff selection; train, supervise, and evaluate staff assigned to the project.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
  • A master's degree and one year of related formal training, internship, or leadership experience.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Knowledge of articulation and transfer agreements between high schools, community colleges, and universities.
  • Grant management and budgetary experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position is full time, academic management. Salary range: $49,505 to $60,850 per year based on 224 working days (placement dependent upon relevant experience). Annual doctoral stipend: $1,500. District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are available for the employee only. The District participates in contributions to the appropriate retirement system. Position is grant funded and contingent upon annual funding.


All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected must be fingerprinted and submit to a tuberculosis examination.
