PHYSICAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR/MEN'S SOCCER COACH

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
The head men's soccer coach reports to the Dean/Atheltic Director and is reponsible for planning and administering all aspects of the men's varsity soccer pgroam, inlcuding: carrying out all aspects of the men's soccer program necessary to accomplish the objectives, rules and regulations within the college, the athletice department, the Coast Conference, and the California Commission on Athletics (COA); recruiting and retaining student/athletes; responsible for adhering to and orienting student/athletes to the policies and regulations of Hartnell College, the Coast Conference and COA; overseeing conduct and discipline of student/athletes; coaching the team during scheduled practices and games; developing strategies to motivate maximum level of individual and team athletic performance and appropriate personal and social conduct; preparing the men's soccer schedule; monitoring weekly academic progress of student/athletes; planning team travel arrangements in conjunction with the Athletic Director; promoting the soccer program and athletic department both on and off campus; fundraising within the community for Athletic Department, soccer program; marketing and promoting Athletic department; planning and conducting soccer camps, clinics, soccer academy, soccer leagues and tournaments; maintaining Hartnell College soccer website; actively participating in campus prgams and committees; fulfilling other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean/Athletic Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*
- Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
- A Master’s in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education
- OR a Bachelor’s in any of the above AND a Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy
- OR the equivalent. (Applicants applying for equivalency consideration must complete an Equivalency Determination Form)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
- Successful physical education teaching and coaching experience and/or student teaching experience.
- Experience coaching soccer.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Regular, full time, academic tenure-track position beginning January 21, 2008. Annual starting salary range: $47,226 to $89,583 based on 176 days(placement dependent upon educational background and appropriate full-time teaching experience). District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance premiums are available for the employee only. State Teacher’s Retirement System (STRS) membership is required. The District participates in contributions to STRS.
Individual selected must be fingerprinted and submit to a tuberculosis examination.
