PAYROLL SPECIALIST

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • Perform tasks necessary for the preparation of payrolls; research and resolve discrepancies as necessary; assure the accuracy and strict payroll time lines are met.
  • Input, disburse and reconcile statements for involuntary and voluntary deductions and tax status changes; maintain manual and electronic records for employee payroll deductions and prepare reports for taxing, and financial and insurance organizations.
  • Compile and organize payroll-related data and prepare reports and summaries as requested to assist management in accounting, budgeting/reporting process, and negotiations preparation; Review and verify account codes for assigned employee groups; maintain and update employee payroll files.
  • Independently work with County Office of Education; make decisions, resolve issues and coordinate necessary activities related to county payroll reporting; communicate with outside agencies and vendors as necessary.
  • Monitor, oversee and evaluate payroll office processes and revise and update to assure accurate and efficient operation; inform and train campus staff in various payroll-related areas and procedures.
  • Audit materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with department policies, laws and other regulations.
  • Train and oversee the work of assigned staff.
  • Provide support to varied general accounting functions; input and retrieve data and produce reports using necessary hardware and software.
  • Operate a variety of office and accounting machines, including the typewriter, calculator and computer equipment.
  • Prepare, input, and audit data required for state retirement reporting.
  • Perform a variety of clerical support duties, including typing, filing, answer phones and questions, process mail and other related work; order supplies according to established procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • Five years increasingly responsible financial record-keeping experience including at least three years in a payroll function.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and practices.
  • Experience with electronic timekeeping or any computerized time & attendance program.
  • Experience with Datatel Colleague or any computerized payroll system.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Regular, full-time, 12 months per year confidential position. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Starting monthly salary: $3,859; Range: $3,859 to $4,694 (5 steps). District-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. District-assisted life, accident and income protection insurance is provided for the employee only. Must become a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).



All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected is required to be fingerprinted and must submit to a tuberculosis examination.
