Instructor/Program Director for Animal Health Technology
Temporary Registered Veterinary Technician

Priority Screening: Until Filled

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Responsible for teaching courses in the Animal Health Technology Program; designed to prepare students for careers in animal health care services. Completion of the curriculum prepares students for the California State Board Examination so that students can become a Registered Veterinary Technician.

For the 2006/07 academic year, courses will be comprised of second year curriculum.

Professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member, include, but are not limited to: teaching all scheduled classes; following the course outline; keeping and submitting accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, progress and grades; posting and maintaining scheduled office hours; developing curriculum; participating in departmental meetings and college-wide activities and committees; and maintaining relationships with feeder schools as well as the business/industry community through our school relations office and personal contact with local firms. Assignment may include day, evening, weekend classes, and classes off the main campus. This position also serves as the Animal Health Technology Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
  • FOR THE REGISTERED VETERINARIAN POSITION: Must currently be a licensed Veterinarian in California and a graduate of an AVMA accredited program.
  • FOR THE REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN POSITION: BA/BS in animal health technology (or related area) and two years of experience in animal health care or AA with six years of experience. Must currently be a Registered Veterinary Technician in California and a graduate of an AVMA accredited program. (Applicants applying for equivalency consideration must submit a District form for Equivalency Committee review.)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Experience teaching to culturally diverse and nontraditional students.
  • Knowledge of the use of computers in the curriculum.
  • Willingness to incorporate appropriate technology in courses at all levels.
  • Membership in relevant organizations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:REVISED

Regular, full-time, academic, tenure-track position beginning August 18, 2006.

2006/07 Academic Year: 8/21/06 - 6/01/07.

Annual starting salary range:
Veterinarian position: $49,632 - $60,223,
Veterinary Technician position: $35,009 - $60,223; based on 176 days.

Placement dependent upon educational background and appropriate full-time teaching experience. District-assisted health and welfare insurance coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision. Life, accident, and income protection insurance are available for the employee only. State Teacher’s Retirement System (STRS) membership is required. The District participates in contributions to STRS.

All offers of employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of Trustees, receipt of official transcripts verifying the degree stipulated under the minimum qualifications section, employment verification, and any other pertinent documentation.

Individual selected must be fingerprinted and submit to a tuberculosis examination.
