The 2002 Hartnell College Fact Book is the ninth edition of a general reference book published annually by the Institutional Research and Planning Office. The purpose of the book is to provide information about Hartnell’s students, staff, budget, facilities, and external community that can be used for multiple purposes, including planning, grant development, program evaluation, and general information. The Fact Book contains information about Hartnell College student enrollment, student characteristics, and student outcomes. It also includes information about Hartnell personnel, revenues and expenditures, and facilities, as well as community population and employment data. In addition, the Fact Book includes a college and community assessments section, which summarizes the results of recent community, employee, and student surveys. Most information is presented for the last seven years (through fall
2002) in the form of tables and graphs with narrative descriptions of
trends. Tables generally show the number (N) and percentage (%) of persons
falling within specified categories. New for 2002 is a table depicting student headcount, course enrollment, weekly student contact hours (WSCH), and full-time equivalent students (FTES) broken down by instructional program. In fall 2000, Hartnell College converted to a new computer information sytem (Datatel Colleague). As a result, some tables could not be updated in fall 2000, including high school graduates attending Hartnell College, WSCH by program, class status, and enrollment status. In addition, the years 2000-02 should not be compared to the previous years, including tables showing enrollment by location, class status, major, and educational goal. I would like to acknowledge the contributions of the many persons who provided information and assistance during development of the Fact Book. They include: Keven Backman, Maria Castillo, Wayne Davis, Mary Dominguez, MaryHelen Dorado, Mike Foudy, Al Grainger, Paul Herrera, Pete Isle, Romero Jalomo, Cicely McCreight, Gina Moore, Tung Nguyen, Abel Rodarte, Tammy Sharp, and Bill Vigna. I would also like to thank John Briggs, who helped update the Fact Book tables, graphs and document, and Leda Polio, Student Assistant, who provided general clerical support. Lastly, I would like to recognize the fine work of Michael Ely and Kristy Wolter-Warmerdam, Institutional Research Analysts, who gathered and analyzed the Fact Book data, and Stephanie (Penny) Betancourt, Institutional Research Assistant.
