About 160 friends of Hartnell College gathered Thursday evening at Tehama Golf Club for the Fifth Annual WELI Forum, celebrating the transformative impact of Hartnell's Women's Education & Leadership Institute in the lives of striving, deserving women students.

The event was an opportunity to recognize and thank supporters of the Women’s Education & Leadership Institute, which serves socioeconomically disadvantaged female students. Through sponsorships, a raffle and a live auction, the forum also raised funds that will further strengthen WELI, which has graduated 175 scholars and granted nearly $350,000 in scholarships since its founding in 2011.

WELI graduate Lumi Barba, who has since competed her degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, shared what the program has meant for her and her family. In addition, WELI donor, forum committee member and mentor Margaret D'Arrigo Martin moderated an inspiring conversation on leadership with Susan Black, chairman of Pinnacle Bank, center, and Kate Roberts, president of the Monterey Bay Economic Partnership.
