Honor Thy Children:

2 Presentations given by Al and Jane Nakatani

Experience the transformation of a family from grief to healing, brokenness to wholeness

Al and Jane Nakatani's story has been told through the compelling book "Honor Thy Children" (by Molly Fumia).  They have also made hundreds of appearances in Hawaii and the continental U.S.  The Nakatanis have survived the heart-wrenching deaths of all 3 of their children.  Their sons' deaths (2 to AIDS and 1 to violence) inspired them to become agents of social change.  Al and Jane eloquently discuss how prejudice, discrimination, and ignorance lead to human denigration (the product of life experiences and messages that degrade and destroy people on the basis of who they are, without consideration as to their conduct as individuals), and encourage us to promote acceptance of human diversity.  A book-signing with the Nakatanis will follow their presentation.  Come and meet these remarkable people!

[**It is highly recommended that audience members read the book Honor Thy Children before attending, or watch their videotape with the same title.  Due to the short presentation time, the videotape will not be shown, but can be viewed at the Hartnell Library (the videotape may be checked out from the Reserve Desk and previewed in the Library) prior to their engagement.]
