Hues of Red, White, and Blue filled our Steinbeck Center on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, as Hartnell College hosted the Independence Day Naturalization Ceremony. More than 70 new U.S. citizens participated and the room was filled with proud family and friends. It was an honor to have Congressman Jimmy Panetta as guest speaker for this ceremony. Congressman Panetta shared his own grandfathers’ story of how he immigrated from Italy to give his family a better future, he also shared that being part of an event such as this reminds him of why he fights so hard in Washington for immigrant rights.

Trustees Manuel Osorio and Aurelio Salazar Jr. were present to support the newly naturalized.

The vivacious audience clapped and cheered as they recognized the great accomplishment of their loved ones. New citizens cheered, celebrated, cried, and registered to vote. It was a moment that they will all hold dear in their hearts and we are happy to be chosen as the location for such important event.
