The Fourth Annual Panther Prep Day took place during the last weekend in April and proved to be another huge success. In South Monterey County, 308 students participated in the King City event held on Friday, April 28, 2017 and over 500 Salinas-area students attended the Main Campus event on Saturday, April 29th for a total of over 800 students registered for Summer and Fall 2017!

Panther Prep Day is Hartnell's official welcome event for local graduating seniors. The Hartnell College Pathways Team worked with seniors from over 17 local high schools since October 2016 to help seniors complete the Hartnell Steps to Success process of enrollment.

Participating seniors have already completed key components of the enrollment process which include: Admissions Application, Orientation, Financial Aid Application, and Assessment. Panther Prep Day allows students to complete the final steps in the Hartnell College Steps to Success enrollment process; they met with a Hartnell College Counselor to develop their fall 2017 education plan and received priority registration for fall 2017 classes. Updates to this year’s event offered Counseling Sessions by meta-major, allowing students to have a better understanding of their major and career choice.  The return of a much needed Financial Aid session was also brought back to the event and included a “front counter,” and open lab where student and parents received a check on their financial aid status. We had incredible participation from Hartnell faculty and staff including Counseling, College Pathways, Admissions & Records, Financial Aid, IT, managers, deans, volunteers and many more. We also had an amazing turnout of current Hartnell students who were hired to lead Panther Prep students throughout their day, many of whom participated in Panther Prep Day when they were seniors! The response and appreciation continues to come in from the high schools, too.

“I just wanted to drop you a note to tell you how much NSHS students loved Panther Prep Day. They   are really excited because they feel supported and they have a plan for their future!” said a counselor from North Salinas High School.  Panther Prep Day is Hartnell's early college preparation model helping students to be better prepared and successful in their transition from high school to college.

Congratulations to Student Affairs for another great event!
