Hartnell Offers Thursday Night Film Appreciation Class

January 19th, 2007

Hartnell College is making its popular Film Appreciation class available for those who work during the day or who otherwise prefer the convenience of night classes. Its "Thursday Night at the Movies," officially known as English 51, is accepting registrations from all community members who are interested in enjoying good film and understanding more about the art of film-making.

The course will cover a wide variety of both domestic and foreign films, in genres ranging from gangster to westerns. The class will view, analyze, and discuss many films, including Carlito’s Way, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Chinatown, among others.

"This is a great class for people who want to gain greater appreciation for the movies they watch as well as those who may be considering film as a career," says instructor Ron Waddy, who has taught at Hartnell for nearly 10 years. "The continuation of art depends on an educated, appreciative audience."

Waddy studied cinema at Los Angeles City College before earning his master’s in English at CSU Long Beach, where he studied screen writing. His class will meet each Thursday night from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning January 25.

Film lovers may register online at www.hartnell.edu or by calling 755-6711.
