Hartnell Holds “Cash for College” Workshop

February 1st, 2010

On Saturday, February 6, Hartnell College will hold a workshop for current and potential college students and their families who are interested in applying for financial aid. High school seniors interested in enrolling at any college in the fall are encouraged to attend.

This Cash for College Workshop will help students and parents complete all the forms that are required to apply for federal and state financial aid, including the 2010-11 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form, which is the first step in applying for nearly any kind of financial aid.

Workshop participants should report to the Board Room, CAB room 112, on the college’s main campus in Salinas.

Three workshops will be conducted in English, beginning at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. A workshop conducted in Spanish will start at noon. Doors will be closed 5 minutes after the workshop start times.

Hartnell’s financial aid professionals will be available for one-on-one assistance in both English and Spanish on the financial aid process, including the FAFSA and Cal Grant requirements, and most families will be able to complete the FAFSA online on Saturday, using computer labs on campus.

Participants should bring their 2009 tax return information (parent and student), W-2’s, or income statements; photo identification (e.g., drivers’ license), social security or alien registration number., and records of untaxed benefits. Previous year’s tax information may be used to get started on the forms, though updated information will need to be substituted later.
