Women's Leadership Summit to be Held at Hartnell College

Hartnell College will host a Women's Leadership Summit on Friday, March 24, as part of the college's celebration of Women's History Month.

The program, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Steinbeck Hall of the College Center, is open to the community.

The summit will focus on the development of key leadership skills as it relates to personal career paths for women in education environments, according to Liz Estrella, Hartnell counselor and president of the campus' Academic Senate.

More than 125 women, men, Hartnell faculty, staff and students are expected to attend, according to Estrella. There is no charge for the program, except for lunch ($5).

Keynote speaker is Aida Hurtado, professor of psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and current director of UCSC's Chicano/Latino Research Center.

Panelists will include Celia Barberena, vice president, student services, Hartnell College; Cecilia Cervantes, president, Alameda College; Alma Sifuentes, special assistant to the associate vice-chancellor, student affairs, UCSC; and Evelyn Wesley, president, Merritt College.

In addition to the keynote address and a panel discussion on perspectives of leadership, there also will be group discussions and a lunch $5, payable at the door).
