Hartnell College Plans Career and Employment Fair for Wednesday, April 19

April 8th, 2006

Hartnell College's 10th annual Career and Employment Fair - which is open to high school and college students as well as members of the community - will be held on campus Wednesday, April 19.

The free event is a joint effort of several Hartnell departments and the Mission Trails Regional Opportunity Program (ROP), which offers training opportunities for students in eight school districts in Monterey County.

The fair will be held in Hartnell's College Center and adjacent quad area from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fair has two major purposes, according to Denise Moss, director of career and workforce development at Hartnell and chairperson for the event. "Our fair," she says, "will give attendees the opportunity to learn more about a wide range of career fields as well as information about current job opportunities."

More than 70 organizations and employers will participate in the fair, which is expected to attract more than 2,000 individuals, said Moss.

Some of the confirmed fair participants include the U.S. Armed Forces, KSBW-TV, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Greenfield Police Dept., Hyatt Regency Monterey, Target, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Sears, Orchard Supply Hardware, Salinas Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Monterey County Health Department.

There will be hands-on demonstrations of several career fields, including massage therapy and cosmetology. The Seaside Fire Department will demonstrate its Jaws of Life, and there will be a nail driving competition by carpenter apprentices as well as several other demonstrations.
