Sign up now for Hartnell College’s 2010-11 FREE Preschool

April 19th, 2010

The Child Development Centers at Hartnell College will accept pre-school applications beginning Tuesday, April 20, for the 2010-11 school year.

The centers offer free preschool to three- and four-year-olds from income-eligible families from the community in three-hour sessions, Mondays through Fridays. The 2010-11 program begins on August 12, 2010 and goes until June 7, 2011. Parents may choose morning sessions, which run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., or afternoon sessions, which run from 1 to 4 p.m.

The centers’ bilingual, college-educated, credentialed teaching staff implement a curriculum that follows the California State Department of Education Pre-Kindergarten Learning Foundations.

“Children enrolled in the center are guided to develop confidence, independence, curiosity, motivation, and the ability to communicate and connect with others” says Linda Taylor, director of the college’s centers.

Hartnell has two child development centers in Salinas, one on the main campus at 411 Central Avenue (755-6945) that serves up to 120 children, and the other on the Alisal Campus at 1752 E. Alisal Street (755-6774), which serves up to 60 children. Interested parents are urged to call either campus for more information or to arrange to visit the centers, or visit www.hartnell.edu.

Enroll from April 20 to May 14 for priority consideration.

Children must be at least three years old on or before December 2, 2010 to enroll. When submitting an application, parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of the family’s most recent month’s income. Parents of children enrolled at the centers do not have to be Hartnell students to apply.
