Hartnell College invites the entire community to a news conference and groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, May 22, at 12:30 p.m. at the site for the newest building on Alisal Campus, the Center for Applied Technology, 1752 E. Alisal Street, in Salinas.
The Center for Applied Technology, designed by Kasavan Architects, will be a 40,000-square-foot building to house many of the college’s career and technical education programs, including the Agricultural Business & Technology Institute and the new sustainable construction programs, as well as general education, basic skills, ESL, and student services programs to serve the Alisal community. Its construction is an important focus of the transformation of Hartnell College, uniting the ag and construction industries, civic leaders, and the education communities in a true community partnership.
WHERE: 1752 E. Alisal Street, Salinas on Hartnell’s Alisal Campus. (Parking will be available in marked locations).
WHEN: Thursday, May 22, at 12:30 p.m. (a barbecue lunch will be available starting at 11:30 for $10 with advance reservations, provided by the Turf Club).
WHO: Dennis Donohue, Salinas mayor; Supervisor Simon Salinas, Monterey County Board of Supervisors; LeBaron Woodyard, Dean of Instructional Programs and Services of the Chancellor’s Office of the California Community Colleges; Liz Sanchez, president of the board of directors of Alisal Center for the Fine Arts; Dr. Phoebe Helm, interim superintendent/president Hartnell College; Kari Valdes, president of the Hartnell College Board of Trustees; Lorena Moreno, Hartnell student body president; Don Chapin, co-chair of the President’s Task Force on Construction Technology; Jim Bogart, co-chair of the Agriculture Steering Committee.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Hartnell College Jazz Ensemble from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and by Rondalla Armonia from noon to 12:30 p.m. At least 150 guests are expected.
