SALINAS, Calif. - On Sunday, June 1, 2014 the Student Support Services/TRiO Program at Hartnell College will hold a Graduation/Transfer Recognition Ceremony at 5:00 p.m. in the Student Center at 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, CA. List of honorees and program attached.
This year, 44 students will graduate the program. They are from Prunedale, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, and Salinas. The 44 graduating and transferring students will bring to a close their two to four years as active members in our TRiO program.
TRiO is a federally funded college student Retention/Transfer pathway that assists 230 first-generation, low income and/or disabled students in a supportive Learning Community. TRiO Pathway guides students to obtain an Associate of Arts/Science degree from Hartnell College and transfer to a university. In addition, TRiO provides individual tutoring in Math and English, plus students learn to become financially and economically literate.
The Student Support Services/TRiO Program is made possible by a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to Hartnell College. This is the second five-year grant cycle the college has received it, making this the ninth year of SSS/TRiO at Hartnell.
The TRiO Program has a very close relationship with the work of the Hartnell Foundation and their work with the California Endowment Project, Building Healthy Communities, East Salinas (Alisal) Project. Out of the 44 TRiO graduates, 24 of them live within the 93905 and the 93906 neighborhoods served by the California Endowment Project, Building Healthy Communities, East Salinas (Alisal) Project.
TRiO recruits students from all of the ten feeder high schools as well as the Monterey County Office of Education - Migrant Education Region 16. For more information on the Student Support Services/TRiO Program at Hartnell College, call the TRiO office at 831-759-6013.
