Naomi C. Pardo of Gonzales - who graduated from Hartnell College in June - has received a scholarship to attend California State University, Monterey Bay, in the fall.
She will major in liberal studies and would like to become an elementary school teacher.
A re-entry student who is married with two sons, Pardo continually raised her grade point average (GPA) while at Hartnell. She graduated with an overall GPA of 3.4.
Pardo was involved in several campus activities, including the formation of a reading and spelling improvement class offered through Hartnell's Community Workforce Program. Pardo also was president of the Future Teachers Club, which promotes activities that provide learning experiences for future teachers.
In addition, she was a member of the Latina Leadership Network, a club that promotes education for Latina women.
The scholarship, which provides $1,500 per year for up to three years, is designed to promote access to local area students interested in attending CSUMB.
