This 2008 collegiate cross country season kicked off this past weekend all over the country with several former Hartnell College Panther harriers performing well for their respective schools. Enrique Lopez, last year's Northern California cross country champion, placed 8th in 26:55 for 8k for Northern Arizona University at the George Kyte Invitational in Flagstaff, AZ. Northern Arizona is picked to win the men's division of the Big Sky conference this year.
Nick Shea, competing now for St. Mary's College in Moraga, was the Gaels second scoring running placing eleventh overall in 25:58 for 8k at the UC Davis Open. Chico State junior Beau Rogers was 8th overall in the annual team time trial with a time of 25:12. Chico State is currently ranked third overall for Division 2 cross country programs. For Panther and recent CSU Stanislaus graduate Jose Morales was the top overall finisher at the Stanislaus Invite with a time of 26:27 for 8k.
