Hartnell Volleyball Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

Hartnell Volleyball Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

The Hartnell College women’s volleyball team is joining in the campaign to promote breast cancer awareness by dedicating its October 17th home match against Gavilan College to the effort.

Joining in with hundreds of college and high school teams from around the country in this “Dig Pink” campaign, Hartnell College volleyball athletes hope to raise funds for cancer research and treatment.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support at the 6:30 p.m. match at the main gym at Hartnell’s campus at 411 Central Avenue in Salinas. Educational material on breast cancer will be available for the public and donations will be collected.

The national effort is organized by the Side Out Foundation, a D.C.-based non-profit organization that raises money for breast cancer research through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Their name underscores the purpose of the organization – “Side-Out” in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest.
