Crazy for You Gala to benefit the Western Stage

November 18th, 2013

SALINAS, Calif. - This Saturday, November 23, 2013, the Hartnell College Foundation hosts its Eighth Annual Western Stage Gala featuring a special performance of the musical Crazy for You at 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, California. This special event is a fundraiser to benefit the Western Stage and its programs.

Crazy for you!

The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with a strolling dinner, a hosted full bar with local wines and specialty drinks, an assortment of desserts, silent auction, and culminating with the Tony Award-winning musical Crazy for You. The Gala will take place at Hartnell College Performing Arts, Building K.

"We are very excited about our 8th Annual Gala at the Western Stage. Through your support, you have enabled us to provide the opportunity for students and community members to participate in the realm of the performing arts and allow us to live up to our reputation of consistent high quality productions," said Gala Chair Dottie Massey, Vegetable Section Manager at International Produce Group. "We thank you sincerely for your past support and hope to see you again this year!"

Theater captures the imagination of those who want to sing and dance under the stage lights, but it also has the power to bring communities together to keep this art form alive. Thus the theme of Ken Ludwig's musical Crazy for You, with music and lyrics by Ira and George Gershwin, this madcap send-up of the Great American Musical is also a tribute to the transformative power of theatre. Here is a little glimpse of what Crazy for You is about:

When Bobby Child, a failed musical theatre actor in New York City, is recruited by his ruthless banker mother to foreclose on a small, community theatre in the Gold Rush town of Deadrock, Nevada, he is inspired by both his dreams of becoming a big time hoofer and his budding romance with Polly Baker, the daughter of the owner of the theatre he’s supposed to foreclose. He decides to stage a musical spectacular that will save the theatre from his mother’s heartless machinations and win Polly's heart.

Tickets for the Gala are $100 per person at www.hartnellfoundation.org or by calling (831) 755-6810.
