Hartnell College is inviting community members to an open house of its refurbished, state-of-the-art Fitness Center.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The 4,500-square-foot facility has been remodeled thanks to funds made available by the passage of Measure H in 2002.
"We most cordially invite the public to come by to see our updated facility," said Sherry Schumann, Hartnell's dean of physical education and director of athletics. "We are very proud of what we have to offer in the way of a modern, up-to-date facility that is geared to helping students and community members develop their physical well-being and improve their overall health."
The refurbishing cost $153,000 and includes new cardiovascular and weight-training equipment as well as new flooring. Specifically, there are 14 new Cybex Eagle weight machines, three new Cybex Arc Trainers, eight new Cybex Pro treadmills, five new Concept-H rowing machines, new plated-loaded free weight training equipment, adaptive PE equipment, and new free weights.
The center, used by 800 to 1,200 students and community members every semester, is located in Hartnell's physical education building on Alisal Street close to the corner of Homestead Avenue.
